This is also one of the important goals of the Party and the State.”The launching ceremony is expected to take place officially on April 24 in Quảng Ninh Province, in conjunction with the launch of Workers’ Month.The event also serves as a practical activity marking the 140th anniversary of International Labour Day (May 1) and World Day for Safety and Health at Work (April 28).Throughout the Action Month, practical activities will be implemented across central and local levels, including enforcing Directive 31-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee; organising dialogues of national and provincial councils on occupational safety and health; and visiting victims and relatives affected by occupational accidents and diseases.Functional agencies will also strengthen inspections and guide self-inspections at enterprises and production facilities, combined with conferences, seminars and in-depth training to raise awareness of occupational safety in the digital age.According to the ministry’s report, more than 7,000 occupation-related accidents occurred last year, down 15.4 per cent compared with 2024.Notably, both the number of fatal workplace accidents and fatalities fell sharply, especially in areas with established labour relations.The country recorded 621 fatal workplace accidents, a decrease of 9.33 per cent, resulting in 658 deaths, down 9.49 per cent.Material losses from workplace accidents fell significantly, from over VNĐ42.5 trillion ($1.5 billion) in 2024 to just VNĐ14 trillion ($530 million) in 2025. — VNS

Vulnerable sections – including embankments, river dykes and silted or degraded canals – must be identified, with proposals made for reinforcement and repairs.City authorities have also called for regular monitoring and acceleration of irrigation, dyke and reservoir projects to ensure structural safety during the upcoming rainy season.The Department of Construction has been assigned to urgently review and report on the progress of the Thanh Đa Peninsula anti-landslide project, covering multiple sections and reinforcement works along the Sài Gòn River at discharge points. All have met requirements on registration, inspection and licensing, and have installed vessel monitoring systems (VMS), a key tool to enhance oversight of offshore activities.Lieutenant Colonel Đặng Văn Long, Deputy Commander of the Nhật Lệ Border Guard Station, said that border guards have tightened checks from the moment vessels leave port.He added that vessels losing VMS signals must report to shore at least six hours in advance for monitoring and handling in line with regulations.At fishing ports and anchorage areas, departure conditions are strictly controlled. Vessel owners must complete all required procedures and ensure VMS devices operate continuously, while maintaining accurate fishing logs.A 24/7 monitoring system allows authorities to track vessels’ positions and movements in real time. Exports to the Middle East account for less than 3 per cent of Việt Nam’s total export turnover, while the likelihood of a large-scale and prolonged ground campaign in Iran is considered relatively low.VinaCapital views the situation as a more intense version of last year’s “12-day conflict”, meaning tensions may last longer but mainly create a sharp yet short-term shock to global financial markets.The clearest impact on Việt Nam’s economy would come from higher oil prices. Since the beginning of the year, global oil prices have risen about 30 per cent, potentially pushing Việt Nam’s CPI inflation from around 2.5 per cent year-on-year to nearly 4 per cent in the coming months.However, fuel accounts for only about 4 per cent of Việt Nam’s CPI basket, while food and foodstuffs – largely produced domestically – make up nearly 36 per cent. As a result, the energy price shock is considered manageable, although higher transport and logistics costs may push up domestic prices.Higher oil prices could also weigh on GDP growth, as Việt Nam is a net energy importer with net imports equivalent to about 1 per cent of GDP relative to energy consumption. Nevertheless, the Government still has room to offset this impact through growth-supporting measures.The oil price surge may also be partly cushioned by plans from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to raise output from April, while fuel inventories – particularly in China – are reportedly at multi-year highs.Meanwhile, a stronger US dollar and rising gold prices could put depreciation pressure on the Vietnamese đồng (VNĐ). Combined with higher inflation, this may push 12-month deposit rates up by 50–100 basis points this year to around 7 per cent per year.In a less favourable scenario where oil prices exceed US$100 per barrel, inflation could rise above 5 per cent and deposit rates climb beyond 7–8 per cent, while GDP growth may fall by about two percentage points.Higher energy costs would also hit household spending. Currently, Vietnamese households spend about 6 per cent of their total expenditure on petrol and gas. If oil prices rise by around 70 per cent, this share could exceed 10 per cent, forcing households to cut spending on other items.On the stock market, rising oil prices, shipping costs and interest rates may increase short-term volatility and widen sectoral divergence. The patient’s hand was nearly destroyed.Injuries caused by fireworks or explosive devices are often extremely complex, making the restoration of individual fingers extraordinarily difficult.Despite prompt emergency care and urgent surgery, and after extensive efforts by the medical team, doctors were only able to preserve two of the patient’s five fingers. The entire palm and wrist area sustained devastating damage, meaning the treatment process is expected to be prolonged and will require multiple additional surgeries.In the long term, the patient is likely to regain only very limited hand function.Dr Vịnh said that every year, particularly in the three months leading up to the Lunar New Year, the department treats numerous firework-related accidents, most of them involving adolescents. In recent years, however, such cases have been occurring sporadically throughout the year rather than being confined to festive periods.The patient has undergone surgical debridement to remove crushed tissue and foreign objects, including firework fragments. In the next few weeks, doctors will continue treatment by covering necrotic areas with skin flaps, and after several months, they plan to perform toe-to-thumb transfer surgery to replace the lost thumb.Even so, the patient will have to accept the permanent loss of at least two fingers, according to his medical team.Dr Vịnh warned the public, especially young people, never to underestimate the dangers of explosive materials. What doctors regret most is that accidents caused by fireworks are entirely preventable, yet continue to occur. Just a few moments of carelessness can lead not only to permanent loss of limb function, but in many cases can directly threaten lives.The doctor also stressed that in the event of a fireworks-related accident, the injured person should receive basic first aid, including wound dressing and immobilisation, and be transported immediately to the nearest medical facility, as delays may result in the loss of critical time for emergency treatment.Out of this deeply regrettable case, Dr Vịnh expressed the hope that families, schools and society will strengthen supervision, education and awareness among adolescents so that the sound of fireworks no longer comes at the cost of young people’s health, future and entire lives. — VNS

Revenues beat the Government-assigned target by 5.9 per cent.The VSS reported that total accumulated reserves across the social, health, and unemployment insurance funds now top VNĐ1.5 quadrillion, making them one of Việt Nam’s largest off-budget public financial vehicles and ensuring long-term capacity to meet benefit obligations.For 2025, total disbursements from the funds amounted to VNĐ528.2 trillion, including nearly VNĐ342.4 trillion from the social insurance fund, over VNĐ19.4 trillion from unemployment insurance, and VNĐ166.4 trillion from health insurance.According to VSS, fund management and use in 2025 remained tight and effective in line with regulations. Acting on the Ministry of&nbsp;Finance’s directions to improve fund efficiency and stamp out misuse and fraud, the system ramped up risk monitoring, on-site inspections, and oversight.It also improved cost evaluations for health insurance-covered medical services to protect insured patients’ legitimate rights and prevent abuse and fraudulent claims, thereby optimising the health insurance fund.Social insurance funds also serve as a major channel for capital mobilisation, primarily via government bond holdings.
