10,000 firms slated for digital transformation

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), along with a group of experts, has launched a program to support 10,000 firms in achieving digital transformation.

Enterprise mindsets

According to Vu Ba Phu, Director General of the MoIT’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE), while some enterprises have implemented digital transformation and realized its crucial role, others are still struggling, not due to lack of capital investment or technology, but to the mindset of business leaders.

At a recent seminar on the contribution of digital transformation to market growth of enterprises, Consulting Director at FPT Digital Vuong Quan Ngoc said that as many as 70 percent of businesses failed to implement digital transformation because they could not reach consensus on their vision and goals or lacked linkages and resource planning.

According to Ngoc, digital transformation should be defined as a process, not simply a destination, involving continuous upgrades according to the advancement of technologies. Therefore, digitalization is not only the task of the information technology departments, but of all units.

“Actually, digital transformation starts from on-going activities, from the existing resources of the businesses, and most importantly, from the head or the leaders who steer their businesses,” said Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, VIETRADE’s Director of the Information Technology Application Center.

Easing obstacles

Perceiving the difficulties of businesses in digital transformation, the MoIT has developed a program to support 10,000 businesses in digital transformation, which will be implemented from 2022 to 2025.

“Over the past two years, we have found that businesses are eager to learn about digital transformation. However, they face many challenges because this is a very new area. Therefore, we have combined to raise awareness and strengthen their commitments to the support program,” Thuy explained.

Director of the Online CRM Company Bui Cao Hoc, a program consultant, gave an overview of digital transformation solutions for businesses, explaining that one platform can serve them in building multi-channel marketing and sales, providing customer care, carry out warehousing, supplier and personnel management, timekeeping, salary calculations, financing, and accounting.

Hoc said his company has coordinated and accompanied VIETRADE to support small and medium-sized businesses in the transformation process. Specifically, it proved the need and role of digital transformation; advised business owners on technology solutions based on their needs and resources; provided human resources for consulting and implementing digital solutions; organized inspection and supervision of projects with enterprises to ensure their efficiency.

“To achieve the goal of supporting 10,000 businesses in digital transformation and effective digital transformation in the 2022-2025 period, we urgently need the cooperation and coordination of all related parties from state agencies, industry associations to technology enterprises,” Hoc said.

Apart from this program, VIETRADE has implemented other activities that help businesses apply information technology to boost advertising and find partners.
